What a WONDERFUL Weekend!
How do I start to report on this, our 40th Anniversary celebration?!
It was well-attended, yes, but the exciting part was that several members attended for the first time, some within the Uk, others flying in from Texas and Spain and vowing to return next year!
It was educational, yes, our 2 speakers inspired some of us to make lace and others to look for the stunning straw decoration that they had not previously noted on fans. In addition, Marion M and Helen M ( not forgetting Sue A) packed the programme with fans and fun, including a river cruize and a wonderful display of lace fans in The Higgins, Bedford, which attracted visitors for a full month.
Our auction revenue included £500 raised from the sale of the unique fan created by our very own Lorraine Taylor-Kent. Members treated themselves at the Sales Tables which followed the AGM. An antique fan depicting various amusing cats was presented to Joan M who was retiring from the post of Secretary after 22 years service. We shall miss her in the role, but welcome Mary K as her sucessor.
The Gala dinner tables were beautifully decorated with a Ruby fan for each diner, commemmorating our anniversary. We were entertained by a fan dancer! As always we took time to view and admire the fans each member brought to dinner. And of course we concluded the event with the presentation of the Ruby Anniversary fan created for us by Sylvain le Guen.
