PLUMES FEATHERS IN FASHION, the Bowes Museum Barnard Castle, UK, 5/10/14 to 19/04/15

This exhibition was initiated by MoMu Museum Antwerp.
Dresses included ones by Thierry Mugler, Dior, Gaultier, Prada, Gucci, Lanvin and Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton, amongst others. As well as a small selection of fans, this very striking exhibition feathered hats and head dresses, shoes and bags, plus a very interesting display of feather decorated fabric samples from the French Maison Lemarie.
Interestingly, fans were on the most part loaned by MoMu, Fashion Museum Hasselt, ( those first two are in Belgium), Municipal Museum The Hague, and the Royal Collections, Belgium. Only one listed of 11 displayed is from the Bowes Museum itself.
Most spectacular was the dyed pink ostrich feather on blonde tortoiseshell, the guard decorated with the arms of Linburg in platinum, diamond, rubies and enamel, 1928, formally owned by Queen Astrid.
